missed opportunity (scrooge moment) open mics and being a musician like richard lloyd of television

ok so here's what happened i was hanging out with my cousin and another guy it was william and wyatt so around this time i was still drinking alcohol (where for a while i was busy with making it to events) so there was that wild card but i'd seen there was an open mic night posted in old town and finally i was available to participate so what happened was first off i concluded that i wasn't going to be a professional musician for lots of reasons like not leaving my family stranded (or being trapped that way) or seeing other ways better off so what happened was i'd played there a few times not too many yet (i even got some on video) but so on this night william and wyatt left i think what they'd done was gone off to go smoke in private so i am at my house alone and waiting then eventually they get there and we leave to go head off to the bar where the open mic is so we get there at midnight i don't get to 'headline' because it's already full so i don't get to play then they stay and hang out and play pool for a little but i think they might not have been spending money so i am like thinking this is stupid and we're about to get kicked out um along the way what i remembered was the guitarist television who i met (he played black cat)(and too parts like his life's work being maybe a little against the wind along the way) before and seeing some similarities like if i were to have made it to the open mic every night and started my music career from there

um having been at one point a good candidate for that my professionalism and dedication um so the television guy what i said was he sort of played guitar and mumbled along and it was entertaining

so yeah i guess i thought if i pursued that i could've been successful focusing on that hobby

Was this actually to my niave innocent ignorance a extremely stupid idea?

 I'll tell you my story on this one. I got stationed overseas. My unit and I were about to deploy to Afghanistan. I was in debt from my student loan and reclassed from my MOS with my bonus. My peers basically told me I was going to become an amputee very shortly. (there's also a little bit of similarity to this and the Adam Driver story too). My unit covered down for me and basically asked what I'd be okay with. I basically got instructed to go AWOL (previously I saved up all my money to pay off my loan with by only eating at the DFAC chow hall) and I did. I first bought a guitar and then used my savings on hotels. Previously another trivia bit was there was a ad in Ft Gordon for Smart Piggy and it said there were high interest rates I had some money in there before cashing out. So while AWOL I recorded what happened to be about the exact amount of a vinyl record in addition to other extra recordings for another album.
